National Apartment Association Education Institute (NAAEI) Credentials

As an affiliate of the National Apartment Association (NAA), the Tulsa Apartment Association (TAA) hosts courses for industry professionals to earn their credentials.  TAA hosts these in-person credential courses once a year in Tulsa.

CERTIFIED APARTMENT MANAGER (CAM)

Earn your CAM certification and increase your community's Net Operating Income. NAAEI developed the Certified Apartment Manager (CAM) program to assist apartment industry professionals in advancing their apartment management career. CAM curriculum has been enhanced with Franklin Covey video based courses. 

Earning your CAM allows you to demonstrate that you have the knowledge and ability to manage an apartment community and achieve owners' investment goals.

Certified Apartment Supplier (CAS)

Earning CAS allows you to network with your peers from other companies and learn about the benefits and activities the apartment association offers. The CAS course happens at the same time as the Certified Apartment Manager (CAM) course, so it is an opportunity for suppliers to gain a better understanding of their customers by hearing the everyday challenges faced by apartment community managers .

You'll learn about:

  • Applicant screening, leasing contracts, and move-ins
  • Rent collection, lease renewal, the move-out process, lease termination, and eviction
  • Property management systems and their functions
  • How community managers create a positive fair housing environment
  • Minimizing risk through inspections, preventative maintenance, safety programs, and documentation
  • Addressing property and environmental hazards and crime
  • Analyzing property financial operations and underperformance
  • Monitoring property performance to achieve an owner's investment goals
  • Maximizing net operating income

To obtain the CAS credential, candidates must complete the following:

  • Employment within the apartment industry in a supplier position
  • Attend all CAS classes
  • Complete the Suppler Success Course (date TBA)
  • Pass the proctored online exam

The CAS course is typically held in Tulsa during the first quarter of the year.

Certified Apartment Leasing Professional (CALP)

***NALP is now the CALP***
The National Apartment Association Education Institute has renamed the National Apartment Leasing Professional (NALP) credential to the Certified Apartment Leasing Professional (CALP) credential.  It's the same great training and credential program, but now has a new name that is consistent with other NAAEI credential programs and includes updates to the curriculum to ensure it is staying up-to-date with current industry trends in leasing.

Earning CALP, your first industry credential, signals to your employer your commitment to a career in residential property management.

Certificate for Apartment Maintenance Technicians (CAMT)

Maintenance expenses are the single largest controllable element in any operating budget. This course acts as an introduction for new maintenance professionals or as a refresher for the veteran employee, teaching what it takes to run a cost-effective maintenance program.

Earning your Certificate for Apartment Maintenance Technicians (CAMT) validates your knowledge, enhances your reputation and credibility, boosts your confidence and earns you respect.

The CAMT program is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), a private non-profit organization that administers and coordinates the U.S. voluntary standardization and conformity assessment system.

During the CAMT course you will learn about:​

Requirements:

To obtain the CAMT credential, candidates must complete the following:

  • Minimum of 12 months of apartment or rental housing maintenance experience. (This can be obtained while taking the course, you will receive a provisional certificate until this requirement is met.)  
  • Successful completion of all CAMT coursework (totaling 80 hours)
  • Meet all examination standards within 12 months of declaring candidacy

Certified Apartment Portfolio Supervisor (CAPS)

Earn your Certified Apartment Portfolio Supervisor designation to enhance your
leadership skills, better interpret property results and track progress toward property or
portfolio objectives. Whether you are a new or experienced portfolio supervisor,
enhance your knowledge and on-the-job performance.

Enrolling in CAPS takes you to the next level in property management. It fast-tracks your career advancement and your corresponding earning potential.

During the CAPS Course you will learn about:

  • Recruiting high-performing employees
  • Employee performance, engagement, and retention
  • Minimizing conflict through stakeholder communications
  • Ethical behavior and conflicts of interest

REQUIREMENTS

To obtain the CAPS credential, candidates must complete the following:

  • Minimum of 24 months employment as a multi-site supervisor or be either a CAM, ARM or RAM credential holder in good standing.
  • Successful completion of all CAPS course work (totaling 40 hours)
  • Receive a passing score on the online CAPS exam within the six month candidacy time period

NEW!!! CAPS Direct

CAPS Direct allows you to earn your Certified Apartment Portfolio Supervisor (CAPS) credential without completing the CAPS coursework, provided you fulfill the following criteria.  

To qualify for CAPS Direct, candidates must meet two of the following three criteria:

  • Hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree with a major, minor or concentration in property management or real estate.
  • Hold a current CPM designation.
  • Have over five years of experience as a multi-site portfolio supervisor.

​CAPS Direct is also available to former CAPS credential holders who have allowed their credential to lapse for more than five years.

The cost is $700, which includes the CAPS eBook and initial exam fee.  The exam must be completed successfully within six months of enrollment in CAPS Direct.
